We Are Creating a New Church Pictorial Directory!

It has been too long since our church has had an updated pictorial directory, so we’re putting on together! Olan Mills will be at the church to photograph members and their families on three dates: April 15th - 17th (Thursday - Saturday). Please save one of those days to come and be photographed! Sign up will begin in March and more details about the directory will follow. Thanks everyone!

Results of the Survey Regarding One or Two Sunday Church Services

A majority of the responses received favored continuation of one service
(approximately 2/3 of the responses). Thank you ALL who responded! This will be a matter that Session will revisit in the future, but for now we will continue with one service. Thanks again!

Did You Know That ...?

In the ancient Christian church, all baptisms were celebrated on the night before Easter. Sermons were preached in Christian churches only during the Lenten season, throughout the Middle Ages.

Sixteenth-century Presbyterians rejected the observance of Lent.

How times have changed! Do you remember being asked, “What will you be giving up for Lent?’ As a child, I was puzzled by this question. Many Christians have been taught that Lent is a time to limit our personal enjoyment. The purpose of Lenten deprivation, according to some Christian traditions, is to help us understand how Jesus suffered for us. In the Presbyterian tradition, Lent shows us the great blessings of being the people of God. During Lent, we recall where we are going. We open up to the need for new beginnings. By the powerful call of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we move though the forty days of Lent to Easter.

In our church, we will be observing Ash Wednesday at 7:30 on February 17 with a worship service which will include the Lord’s Supper. The forty days of Lent will conclude with our joyous celebration of Easter Sunday on April 4.

This year, most of our Gospel lessons come from Luke. Luke bisects his story of Jesus with the sentence, “He set His face to go to Jerusalem”. At that point in Luke’s story, Jesus and His disciples became goal-oriented in a new way. Most sermons preached in our church from mid-February through Easter will focus on the journey to Jerusalem. In this holy season, it will be our journey, as well.
