A Note from Pastor Joyce Smothers:

Dear Friends in Christ,

I am so pleased to be here. In May, I will be setting up open hours in the pastor’s office, so we can get to know each other. On Tuesday through Friday, through May 29, I will be in my office from nine a.m. to one p.m. (except for emergencies) to chat with anybody who comes in, or anyone who calls me at the church telephone number. Please feel free to drop in—not necessarily for a reason that is “important!” If you’d like an appointment to speak privately with me, please feel free to call and we can set up a time at your convenience—afternoons and evenings are fine.

John and I will be attending all the choir rehearsals on Wednesday nights. On Mondays and Saturdays, I will take scheduled time off—unless anyone in the congregation has a special need. After June 1, when I have a better idea of your needs, I may revise my open morning hours.

I am thrilled to have my own copy of the church’s 150th Anniversary Book. Every day I find I can match a few more of your faces with your names, your parents’ and children’s names, family group shots, etc. I find your stories about the church’s history, your jobs, and your families so fascinating. And I love your precious old photos! The Smothers’ extended family is spread out from San Diego and Seattle to New York City, Schenectady and Boston.

John and I are new in town this month, and we are delighted to have been so warmly, and quickly, welcomed into your church Family.

Warmly,
Pastor Joyce

Confirmation Class

Our confirmation students, along with members of the Youth Group, are currently working on making a new banner to be presented to the congregation in time for Easter services. The banner will be their “gift” to our church. In the past few months we have discussed the history of Presbyterianism and the history of our own Presbytery church in Hokendauqua. For the next few weeks we will be discussing the Statement of Faith of the Presbytery USA church and learning how to put together our own “statement of faith”. Upcoming events will include a trip to Camp Brainerd and volunteering our time at a local food bank. As always if your child cannot attend class on Sunday morning or if you have any questions, please either call Eileen at 610-261-2012 or Carl at 610-868-1884.

A Friendly Reminder

Please remember to make sure all doors are locked and all lights are turned out when leaving the Church. Thanks!

Food Collection

Session and Sunday School will be collecting non-perishable food items to go to our local food bank. Please place any donations in the boxes in the mail hallway and in the sanctuary. Thank you.

Giving Envelopes

The 2009 Giving Envelopes are ready. Please stop by the table in Fellowship Hall to pick up your envelopes. Thank you!

Choir Practice
