New Church Work Project
The Session feels that exterior repairs will enhance our evangelism by making our church more inviting. Our building, once a beautiful focal point for our community, is aging. Its exterior is in need of repair. The facade was coated with white brickote in 1951. This brickote, once bright and clean, is now falling off in chunks. The structural integrity of the church is another concern. The hole is causing the back of the church to sag inward. It must be repaired before the brickote repair project begins. The repair work is slated to begin in early June or early July and to be done by September.
The cost of this project will be seventeen thousand dollars. The Session voted to proceed with the brickote and structural repairs at its April stated Session meeting, at the recommendation of the Property Committee. We have contracted with JG Plastering of Catasauqua. A $2,500.00 grant from the Frank E. Clark Charitable Trust Fund, given to us by Lehigh Presbytery, will be used for the project, supplemented by the church's reserves. Our church was selected, with three other congregations, from a total of 14 churches who applied for grants. The contractor will repair the framing and sheathing of the rear church wall where the hole is located. They will install a water diverter and repair the gutters on the right side of the church, and will also repair the concrete base at the footers of the walls. They will then strip off all the damaged areas of brickote, applying bonding agent to areas to be repaired with new brickote. Finally, they will repair the areas that are cracked.
Improvements to the appearance of our church will make it a more inviting place, and will show our intent to remain strong in the Lord. From the "Last words of King David":
